Taking into account Gosselin's categorization of modalities, the aim of this article is to show how higher education institutions and their students are depicted through the use of various modalities. As this study reveals, universities are often portrayed in terms of the obligations and responsibilities (deontic modality) to be assumed, whereas students are presented with the possibilities (epistemic modality) they can benefit from ER
