AB In assessing statistical sources, the article compares the state of the European and global Francophonie in 1880 and at the present time. At the bottom of a historical study and evaluation of statistical data, the article aims to respond primarily to the following questions: what is the paradox of the current European Francophonie? What is the specificity of the French-speaking Czech compared to other European countries? How to promote policy for multilingualism in the concrete situation of the Czech Republic? ER
