PT Journal AU Pardo Gil, LM TI Argentine television media and their construction of socio-discursive representations related to poor youth crime SO Romanica Olomucensia PY 2014 BP 249 EP 264 VL 26 IS 2 DI 10.5507/ro.2014.024 DE media; poverty; crime; synchronic-diachronic method of text analysis. AB The aim of this research is to show within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis and with a qualitative methodology, how a socio-discursive relationship between crime, poverty and youth is constructed in a prejudiced way by Argentinean TV and YouTube. The corpus consists of five news chronicles of air channels and cable. The synchronic-diachronic method of text analysis is used to identify the semantic discursive categories permitting account for the discursive representations generated by the media. It is observed that a kind of script has been created, according to which many situations of crime lie in conditions of poverty and conflict related to young people being involved in drugs or alcoholism. However, the real issue underlying these problems which far exceeds the discursive representations is not taken into account. ER
