PT - JOURNAL ARTICLE AU - Pardo Gil, MarĂa Laura TI - Argentine television media and their construction of socio-discursive representations related to poor youth crime DP - 2014 Dec 1 TA - Romanica Olomucensia PG - 249--264 VI - 26 IP - 2 AID - 10.5507/ro.2014.024 IS - 18034136 AB - The aim of this research is to show within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis and with a qualitative methodology, how a socio-discursive relationship between crime, poverty and youth is constructed in a prejudiced way by Argentinean TV and YouTube. The corpus consists of five news chronicles of air channels and cable. The synchronic-diachronic method of text analysis is used to identify the semantic discursive categories permitting account for the discursive representations generated by the media. It is observed that a kind of script has been created, according to which many situations of crime lie in conditions of poverty and conflict related to young people being involved in drugs or alcoholism. However, the real issue underlying these problems which far exceeds the discursive representations is not taken into account.
