The state intercultural universities founded in Mexico since 2003 are an innovative educational model focused primarily on the indigenous peoples and the revitalization of their languages. The paper deals with different variations on the subject of couples and marriage in contemporary comedy plays. First, the morphology of boulevard theatre genres is discussed: boulevard comedy, vaudeville and farce. Afterwards, two contemporary French playwrights are presented, together with an analysis of the specific depiction of the motifs of couples, marriage, and love triangles in their plays. The analysis includes Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt and his comedies The Guitrys (2013), Georges & Georges (2014), and Les Petites crimes conjugaux (2016) and Rémi De Vos and his play Projection privée (1998).
