Précarité, misère, désillusion. Mémoire de la désindustrialisation dans la prose française contemporaine

La désindustrialisation a entraîné une transformation fondamentale, entre autres, des formes, relations et statuts sociaux existants. La réflexion littéraire française contemporaine sur les espaces postindustriels revient sans cesse sur la problématique des conséquences (généralement négatives) de ce processus sur la vie et le destin des individus, des familles et de communautés entières. En nous appuyant sur la méthodologie et les idées des études contemporaines sur la mémoire, nous examinons comment les œuvres littéraires participent à la (co-)production, à la mise en scène ou à la préservation de la mémoire collective et de l'identité de sociétés données. L'étude considère les espaces postindustriels comme des périphéries internes et se penche sur les spécificités de cette sémiosphère. Les résultats des analyses révèlent certains schémas et mécanismes, notamment celui de l'imbrication d'un destin individuel unique dans la détermination de l'environnement social et la conscience collective de la périphérie précarisée. Un autre trait distinctif est le motif de la découverte et observation des lieux ou des non-lieux dans lesquels la localité originairement prospère et fonctionnelle a été transformée. La forme littéraire des œuvres prises en compte est subordonnée à un effet délibéré ; l'engagement et les glissements vers la forme du manifeste ou de l'appel conduisent le lecteur à une confrontation de l'image littéraire avec l'expérience du monde réel. La métaphoricité constitue dans cette perspective un élément important : l'espace se fait symbole et le patrimoine matériel devient le dernier porte-parole d'une société disparue, oubliée ou en ruine, ainsi que de son passé.

Precariousness, misery, disillusionment. Memory of deindustrialisation in contemporary French prose

Deindustrialisation has led to a fundamental transformation of, among other things, existing social forms, relations, and status. Contemporary French literary reflection on post-industrial spaces repeatedly returns to the problem of the (usually negative) consequences of this process for the lives and destinies of individuals, families, and entire communities. Drawing on the methodology and insights of contemporary memory studies, this paper examines how literary works participate in the (co-)production, staging, or preservation of the collective memory and identity of given societies. The study analyses the specificities of this semiosphere, in particular the narrative technique of the entry of the outside through a symbolic border as a carrier of meaning. The results of the analyses reveal certain patterns and mechanisms: these include the constant interweaving of a unique individual destiny in the determination of the social environment and the collective consciousness of the precarised periphery. Another distinctive feature is the motif of uncovering and observing the places or non-places into which the originally prosperous and functional locality has been transformed. The literary form of the works is subordinate to a deliberate effect; engagement and shifts towards the form of a manifesto lead the reader to the confrontation of the literary image with the experience of the real world. One of the most important elements is metaphoricity: space is a symbol: material heritage becomes the last voice of a vanished, forgotten, or ruined society and its past.
