Marta Alcaide-Martínez
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):193-218 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.018
Translators and interpreters agree that phraseological units (PUs) are among the most complicated components of languages to translate and interpret because of the cultural connotations and the very different images they evoke in diverse societies. Thus, the main objective of this work is to present a gamified didactic approach to the translation of animal idioms in the English-Spanish/Spanish-English linguistic combination. A three-step protocolised methodology is followed. First, the profile of the potential target sample is described. Second, 30 PUs are gathered in English and Spanish, respectively, and their equivalent translations are provided....

Héctor Leví Caballero Artigas
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):219-236 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.019
The typology of idioms has been the main topic of numerous works and, moreover, it is still a somewhat controversial subject. The present paper aims at analysing the French translation of the pronominal phrases that appear in the novel Cinco horas con Mario by Miguel Delibes. This work has been chosen because of its notable richness and value from the phraseological point of view. The corpus of this paper is composed of 16 pronominal phrases. Its focus is on the study of these idioms and on their translations in the two French editions of the novel. After the analysis of idioms of this type in Delibes' novel, it has been observed that the most commonly-used...

Silvia Cataldo
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):237-250 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.020
The present study is aimed at analysing the possible literal or metaphoric value of the noun cabeza in Spanish and its frequency of use in phraseological units (PUs). Furthermore, different typologies of PUs are classified depending on their grammatical function and on the possible coexistence of both literal and metaphorical interpretations. The analysis is based on a consultation of the Corpus de Referencia del Español Actual (CREA). In the first phase, some limitations concerning chronology, geography, and themes in the search settings are defined in order to reduce the number of possible useless examples extracted from specialised...

Maria Conca – Josep Guia
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):251-277 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.021
In this paper new reasons are provided that show the Catalan origin of the work Refranes famosíssimos y provechosos glosados, printed in Burgos, in 1509 and 1515. In the field of the study of medieval wisdom texts, there has been reluctance to admit that certain Castilian works were translations of Catalan works, some of which were themselves translations from other languages, an attitude that denotes an academically inappropriate prejudice. The methodology used in this research has two aspects: a textual one, following the method of phrasal concordances, in the application of which the paremiological corpus of Refranes famosíssimos...

Iva Dedková
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):279-297 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.022
The present paper deals with the use of traditional and new French orthography in journalistic texts and is interested in finding out which orthography was more common during the period from 2014 to 2021. It is based on exploring a vast textual corpus composed of Francophone periodicals which is entitled "Timestamped JSI web corpus 2014-2021 French" and is integrated into Sketch Engine, a tool for studying how languages function. The paper aims to examine the competing graphic variants of 35 selected lexemes belonging to the grammatical category of nouns (anomalies and loanwords), first in the entire corpus, made up of Francophone periodicals, then...

Maricel Esteban-Fonollosa
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):299-311 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.023
The present study explores the construction [DET{det} ADJ of PRON{pos} N] in Spanish, the meaning of which has a valorative attributive character, generally of CRITICISM and INSULT with respect to the propositional content and is typical of a colloquial register. Constructional idioms are characterised by being semi-schematic constructions which have partially free gaps or slots which are not lexically saturated, as well as by their pragmatic component. The aim of the proposal is to offer a description of the productivity and cognitive fixation (entrenchment) of this construction according to the corpus results found. To...

Loubna Dirhoussi - Mohamed El Bouazzaoui
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):313-324 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.024
This article seeks to analyse some aspects and modalities of the writing of surpassing, in Abdelkébir Khatibi, a Moroccan sociologist and writer. On the basis of a corpus of texts by the author (essays and works of fiction), it will be shown that Abdelkébir Khatibi gives a new dynamic to Maghrebian literature by contributing to the themes of the decentring and deterritorialisation of Moroccan being. The aim is to see how writing is a place of contemporary questioning close to those raised in postcolonial studies. Thus, it will first deal with the author's representation of identity and expose the criticisms that he addresses of the identity huis-clos...
L'essai gionien à l'épreuve de la modernité : de la déconstruction à l'utopie esthétique
The Gionian essay put to the test of modernity: from deconstruction to aesthetic utopia
Ahmed El Ouarrad
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):325-341 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.025
In his essays, Giono strives for an aesthetic view of the world. He considers that it is able to cure man of boredom and can remedy his psychic impasses. Art is in fact the reconciliation in man of his lower faculties (sensuality, instinct, and the body) and his higher faculties (common sense, which aims above all at a good life). Such a reconciliation requires a break with the universes created by science and technology and the ideology of progress which is consubstantial with it, because science and technology are the enemies of any aesthetic conception of the world. They curb man's sensuality, establish a relationship of domination between him and...
« Rituels de Langage » de Hassan Wahbi ou quand l’écriture poétique devient le lieu de la réflexivité
"Language Rituals" of Hassan Wahbi: when poetic writing becomes a place of reflexivity
Anass Harrat
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):343-357 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.026
Modern poetry is no longer an imaginative self-expression or a form of expression that uses metpoetry is no longer imaginative self-expression or a form of expression that uses metre and rhythm to produce poems. It now includes reflexive moments, during which the reader is invited to reinvent their vision of the poetic text. From this perspective, Hassan Wahbi wrote a poem called "Language Rituals" in 2015, in which he rejects the mimetic function of poetry and calls for fragmentary writing. For him, fragmentary writing represents a poetic form that is not only laconic but also condenses a wide poetic spectrum. In order to examine this reshaping of...
Représentations et fonctions narratives de l'empathie dans L'insoutenable légèreté de l'être de Milan Kundera
Representations and narrative functions of empathy in Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Antoaneta Robova
Romanica Olomucensia 2023, 35(2):359-372 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2023.027
Milan Kundera's novels are characterised by a strong intellectualisation of the narrative choices, which includes a very significant essayistic and (self-)reflexive component. The complex composition, irony, and polyphony encourage a slow approach on the part of the reader engaged in a cognitive quest. A recurrent textual strategy in Kundera's novels is to introduce a narrator into the world of fiction. The functioning of narrative empathy and the different representations of affective states are analysed in the novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being through the prism of cognitive literary studies and reception theory. Some narratological devices...
