Le parallélisme fonctionnel des constructions verbales transformées en slovaque et en français

The functional parallelism of transformed verbal constructions in Slovak and in French

Katarína Chovancová - Simona Krafèíková

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):231-242 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.012

The paper deals with selected types of syntactic constructions of verbs in Slovak and in French. The focus is on the impersonal reflexive use of the Slovak third-person singular (A) and its correspondence with first-person generic plural constructions (B) of the same Slovak verbs. The third type of verbal construction under focus is the French "on"-subject construction (C). The corpus-based study is conducted using the Slovak National Corpus and the French corpus Frantext on a narrowed sample of 12 Slovak verbs of sight and their French semantic counterparts. Occurrences of A and B constructions were excerpted from the corpus. Once their frequencies...

La preposición en las perífrasis discursivas del español. Un reto para el armenio

Discursive verbal periphrases in Spanish: a challenge for the Armenian language

M.ª Azucena Penas Ibáñez - Nelli Minasyan

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):243-260 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.013

The work is a contrastive study of discursive verbal periphrases in Spanish and their Armenian equivalent translations. It is focused on the parallels between the formal constructions and their lexical and grammatical meanings in two Indo-European languages: the first one belongs to the Romance branch and the second one to the Armenian branch. It should be noted that in Armenian grammars there is no section dedicated especially to the concept of verbal periphrases. The approach is fundamentally semantic. This is accompanied by cognitive and pragmatic approaches, when it is required to explain a specific fact, not only from the code but from the mental...

El valor atenuant de les partícules evidencials «pel que sembla» i «segons (que) sembla» en el català actual

The reducing value of the evidential particles "pel que sembla" and "segons (que) sembla" in contemporary Catalan

Lucie Rossowová

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):261-272 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.014

The paper attempts to explore the issue of the Catalan evidentials "pel que sembla" and "segons (que) sembla" and examines their possible pragmatic functions of reducing in speech. It intends to find answers related to the pragmatic orientation of the reducing of the forms under study, with their frequency in spoken and written use and with the relationship between the reducing and the reported or inference evidentness. The analysis studies samples from different genres, on the basis of which the intention is to find out which is the reducing mission of these particles. On the one hand, we use spoken conversations, formal as well as informal, and,...

A representação trágica da luta armada em Palavras cruzadas de Guiomar de Grammont

The tragic representation of the armed struggle in Palavras cruzadas by Guiomar de Grammont

Zuzana Burianová

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):273-290 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.015

This paper deals with the role of the tragic in the novel Palavras cruzadas (2015) by the Brazilian writer and historian Guiomar de Grammont. The goal is to analyse how Grammont's novel portrays the Araguaia Guerrilla War, as well as the whole armed struggle against the military dictatorship in Brazil. Starting from the argument that the tragic, though no longer associated only with dramatic representation, remains present in modern literature, the paper first analyses the inspiration Grammont's novel draws from ancient tragedy. The tragic dimension of the narrative is then discussed in relation to the debate over the significance of the armed...

Modos de desandar lo andado: la memoria, el olvido, la nostalgia

Ways of retracing tracks: memory, oblivion, nostalgia

Rosalba Campra

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):291-312 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.016

Arising from a personal childhood experience, the choice of memory appears as a recurring theme in the author's theoretical, critical, and creative writing. All these forms are used in this paper as an exemplification for research in the bordering areas of memory, oblivion, and nostalgia. The definition of these semantic areas as proposed in dictionaries, just like their metaphors in literature, is explored in their convergences and contradictions, giving rise to a series of questions that position the individual in relation to the collective and highlight the function of discourse as a guarantee of persistence in a continually renewed present. On...

El caso de un poeta convenientemente asesinado: La imagen mediática de Federico García Lorca en la prensa checa comunista

The case of a conveniently murdered poet: the media image of Federico García Lorca in the Czech Communist press

Jiøí Chalupa - Eva Reichwalderová

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):313-328 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.017

This paper presents the partial results of a project focused on analysing the evolution of the media image of certain prominent figures in Spanish culture in the Czechoslovak media throughout the 20th century. The objective of the research is to analyse how the prevailing ideological and political environment can influence or manipulate the image of a foreign element presented by the press to the public of the host country. The present text is based on a critical analysis of some 80 articles about Federico García Lorca, his work, and his ideological legacy, after, in total, more than 300 articles related to this subject had been found. The chosen method...

Il ‘narrautore’ dell’ultimo Pier Paolo Pasolini

The "narrauthor" of the final works of Pier Paolo Pasolini

Luciano Lagazzi

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):329-344 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.018

Starting from the Divine Mimesis, published posthumously but started in 1963, Pasolini seeks a different approach to literature, rejecting the conventional value of the narrator to seek a more direct contact between author and reader. As also emerges in Teorema but especially in Petrolio, Pasolini's authorship assumes the characteristics of a "flesh-and-blood narrator", which does not limit itself to proposing a "narrative machine that works alone in the reader's imagination" but becomes a concrete point of reference for a real dialogue. Given the abundance of Pasolinian materials, on the basis of that "knowledge for quotations"...

Mathieu Larnaudie, Les Effondrés. Le pouvoir, l'argent et le romanesque...

Mathieu Larnaudie's Les Effondrés. Power, money, and fiction...

Mara Magda Maftei

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):345-358 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.019

This paper analyses Mathieu Larnaudie's novel Les Effondrés, which was published by Éditions Actes Sud in 2010. Its aim is to show that his novel is built around two perspectives, literary and economic, but also to emphasize the belonging of Mathieu Larnaudie to the Inculte collective. This membership assures him a unique place. The Incultes are implementing a new way of looking at the real: it is the multifaceted nature of the interpretation of the real that interests them. As Les Effondrés illustrates perfectly, it is about a kind of de-totalization practised by the novel since the author leaves to the reader the possibility of reconstructing...

Poème - Texte et/ou Image : Louise Dupré et Anouk Van Renterghem

Poem - Text and/or Image: Louise Dupré and Anouk Van Renterghem

Hana Rozlozsniková

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):359-382 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.020

The collection Carnet Ocre by Louise Dupré, a poet, novelist, and playwright from Quebec, and Anouk Van Renterghem, an artist from Brussels, approaches the intimate meditation of the personal experience of the quest for the poetic and creative voice emerging and radiating from the heart of the "Earth-ocher" because, as Louise Dupré states in the dedication: "we are Earthlings and we love the Earth, which gives us life". This collection succeeds in meeting the challenge of playing the score of the emotion of the encounter in the textual and graphic universe. Each poem is accompanied by a dry pastel that communicates directly to the text beside...

Le roman historique comme monde fictionnel spécifique : quelques remarques méthodologiques

The historical novel as a specific fictional world - some methodological remarks

Jaroslav Stanovský

Romanica Olomucensia 2020, 32(2):383-392 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2020.021

The historical novel, in vogue from the beginning of the 19th century, represents a specific literary genre, situated between fiction and (historical) reality. This paper examines the possibilities of this genre through the theory of fictional worlds. The fictional narrative, including the historical novel, already differs from the factual narrative in that it is the fruit of the invention of the writer and its relation to reality is thus specific. Fiction, obviously, is not just an imitation of reality and mimetic theories cannot sufficiently explain the nature of the fictional referent. The theory of fictional worlds, which supposes the existence...
