Pidgin, língua franca, sabir - um estudo terminológico

Os termos pidgin, língua franca, sabir aparecem na literatura sociolinguística com relativa frequência sem serem definidas com pormenores as diferenças principais entre eles. Por isso, o presente estudo tem como objetivo tentar definir a realidade muito complexa que acompanha a formação e o funcionamento destas formas linguísticas, demonstrar os traços característicos de cada uma das formas para poder tentar caracterizá-las definitivamente, apresentando em que divergem e em que convergem.

Pidgin, lingua franca, sabir - terminological study

The terms pidgin, lingua franca and sabir appear very often in the sociolinguistic literature; however, they are not properly defined. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to define the complexity of the reality which accompanies the formation and functioning of the above-mentioned linguistic phenomena. Moreover, characteristic features of each of these forms are presented in this study to emphasise the similarities and differences between them.
