¿Esto se echa para atrás? Una aproximación a los verbos sintagmáticos en el español peninsular a base de un estudio de corpus de [V para atrás]

La presente investigación trata sobre las construcciones denominadas 'verbos sintagmáticos' o 'construcciones verbo-partícula' en el español peninsular actual. Representan, desde la perspectiva de las Gramáticas de Construcciones, constructional idioms situados entre los dos polos extremos del continuum léxico-gramatical. Dado que el español se considera principalmente una lengua de marco verbal (verb-framed), la existencia de verbos sintagmáticos constituye un aspecto controvertido y no hay estudios empíricos al respecto. Basado en los datos del Corpus del Español del Siglo XXI, el presente estudio examina las instancias de [V para atrás] como candidatos para este tipo de construcciones. Si es verdad que estas instancias suelen ser clasificadas como 'no normativas', también es cierto que se encuentran tanto en el lenguaje hablado como en el escrito. Además, el análisis estadístico, semántico y sintáctico pone de manifiesto que existe, de hecho, una pequeña red de microconstrucciones formada por dar/echar/ir/mirar/tirar/volver para atrás. Estas pueden considerarse como verbos sintagmáticos lexicalizados que destacan sobre todo por su uso metafórico y menos por un comportamiento sintáctico específico. En el español peninsular actual no se trata, por lo tanto, de una categoría cerrada de verbos sintagmáticos, sino que forman, junto con los usos espaciales concretos de [V para atrás], un continuum que abarca desde construcciones más sintácticas hasta unidades fraseológicas que representan diferentes grados de fijación.

¿Esto se echa para atrás? An approach to verb-particle constructions in European Spanish based on a corpus study of [V para atrás]

This contribution deals with what are called 'verb-particle constructions' in today's Peninsular Spanish. From the perspective of Construction Grammars, verb-particle constructions correspond to constructional idioms, which occupy an intermediate position in the continuum between lexicon and grammar. Until now, the existence of verb-particle constructions in Spanish has been controversial, since this language is mainly considered to feature verb-framed patterns. However, this question has not yet been investigated empirically. On the basis of data from the Corpus del Español del Siglo XXI, this study examines the instantiations of [V para atrás] as candidates for this type of construction. Although these are generally classified as 'non-normative' in the existing literature, they are found in both spoken and written language. Moreover, both the statistical frequency analysis and the semantic and syntactic study reveal a small network of micro-constructions formed by dar/echar/ir/mirar/tirar/volver para atrás. The latter qualify as lexicalized verb-particle constructions which are mainly characterized by their metaphorical use and less by a specific syntactic behaviour. For today's Peninsular Spanish, we thus cannot assume a closed category of verb-particle constructions. Instead, they form a continuum, together with the concrete, spatial uses of [V para atrás], that ranges from more syntactic constructions to phraseological units showing different degrees of entrenchment.
