Traduction et mise en valeur de la force illocutoire : le cas de l'interro-négation

Le présent travail propose une étude de la forme interrogative et, particulièrement, du cas des interro-négations. Ces structures ne sont pas un simple dispositif stylistique équivalent à l'interrogation positive : leur force illocutoire joue un rôle central dans l'interaction. L'objectif de cet article est de montrer que le traducteur met en valeur la force illocutoire qu'il perçoit dans l'énoncé interrogatif par l'emploi de la forme négative. Après une présentation sommaire des descriptions disponibles dans la littérature de spécialité, notre travail se concentre sur la traduction d'énoncés interrogatifs et le choix des interro-négations effectué par le traducteur. Nous analyserons la traduction en français d'un ensemble d'interrogations recueillies dans le roman Boquitas pintadas (Puig 1968) en considérant spécialement le changement de signe positif → négatif. Nous postulons que cette opération laisse transparaître la subjectivité du traducteur.

Translation and highlighting of illocutionary force: the case of negative questions

This study proposes an examination of the interrogative form and more particularly negative questions. These structures are not a mere stylistic device equal to the positive form: they have an illocutionary force which plays a central role in the interaction. The aim of this paper is to show that the translator highlights the illocutionary force he perceives in the interrogative sentence by the use of the negative form. After a summary presentation of the description given by the linguistic literature, this work focuses on the translation of interrogative sentences and the choice by the translator of negative questions. We will analyze the translation from Spanish to French of interrogative sentences taken from the novel Boquitas pintadas (Puig 1968) and we will specially consider the change from positive to negative questions. It is argued that this operation underlines the translator's subjectivity.
