Gêneros e suportes: por um refinamento téorico dos níveis de abstração

Genres and formats: theoretical refinement of levels of abstraction

María del Pilar Tobar Acosta, Viviane de Melo Resende

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):127-142 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.016

This paper, based on genres' levels of abstraction, as proposed by Fairclough, who was inspired by Swales, proposes a theoretical development on formats' levels of abstraction. These reflections are results of a research on street papers, a particular type of media. The reflections also articulate levels of abstraction proposed in Critical Realism: real, actual, and empirical.

Los hechos y los dichos en las noticias: la polifonía del discurso periodístico

Cites and facts in the news: polyphony in press discourse

Adriana Amado

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):143-156 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.017

This article presents some enunciation theory ideas integrated with journalism studies to propose an enhanced model for discourse analysis of news. It recommends distinguishing the subjects of the enunciation from the subjects of the statements (énoncé) in order to identify journalists and sources' voices in the news discourse. This approach considers journalistic objectivity as a newsmaking ritual that gives clues of the process by which a statement become news. Considering the polyphony inherent to news, this concept applied to discourse analysis could explain how newspapers with different orientation, ideologically and commercially speaking, offer...

Subjetividade e argumentação no discurso jurídico: o uso de intercalações em processos civis

Subjectivity and argumentation in legal discourse: use of intercalations in civil procedure

Ana Lúcia Tinoco Cabral

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):157-171 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.018

This study aims at analyzing the use of intercalations in civil procedure texts, by observing its argumentative role as well as its subjective and inter-subjective character. The theoretical framework that supports such analysis is based upon the Argumentative Semantics as well as studies associated with the Linguistic Enunciation theory, on an enunciative and discursive view of the grammar issues. The corpus is made up of three civil procedure texts. The enunciative framework is described as the starting point for the analysis methodology, taking into account the parties involved in the civil procedure, ruled by the adversarial principle. The second...

Inútiles y subversivos: representación transmedia de los estudiantes chilenos en redes sociales

Useless and subversive: transmedia mobilization of Chilean students in social networks

Camila Cárdenas Neira

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):173-190 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.019

The students' mobilization cycle started in 2011 has made visible the Chilean youth in an unprecedented way in the postdictatorship history. Its political action has concerted the attention of the mass media that have turned the educational conflict into a polemic object of representation. In this context, the strategic use of internet and social networks has provided them with alternative routes for the development of resistant meanings. From the perspective of the Critical Discourse Studies, this article analyzes the communicative uses that construct a transmedia representation of the protesters from the "useless and subversive" designation widespread...

Funciones y mecanismos en los cierres de los discursos políticos

On the strategies and functions of closings in political discourse

Luis Cortés Rodríguez, Bárbara Herrero Muñoz-Cobo

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):191-203 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.020

Closings in political discourses promote rhetorical strategies in order to make the message conveyed more credible as well as to better capture the audience attention. This article, drawing on all the speeches of the Presidents of the Spanish Government and the opposition leaders, analyses some of the strategies deployed in these speeches. While it is true that the differences in the closings by Presidents and opposition leaders are significant in terms of its subject matter, it should nonetheless be noted that similar oratory devices are used, such as longer pauses, anaphora, concessio, overlooking or paralypsis and, in particular, enumerative lists,...

Anáforas que dejan de serlo: de la interacción del discurso y la morfosintaxis

Anaphoras that stop being anaphoras: on the interaction between discourse and morphosyntax

Antonio Fábregas

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):205-213 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.021

There is a debate about whether the appropriate level to study referential relations between pronominal expressions should be morphosyntactic or discursive. This article explores the issue through a study of some cases where the referential sense of a pronoun does not correspond to its morphosyntactic endowment. It is concluded that morphosyntax is necessary to ban otherwise possible discursive construals, but that - in possible structures - the interpretation received by pronouns is determined by discursive factors

Éder García-Dussán

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):215-228 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.022

This article shows the analysis and interpretation of the structures and functions of the speech of legitimization reflected in the film Kynodontas (Dogtooth), produced in October 2009 by Georgios Lamthinos. To get to this proposal, the qualities and social implications of discursive acts of the legitimation are described and they are evident in the film with the help of an analytical linguistic model, primarily based on the positions of Luisa Martín Rojo, Teun van Dijk, and Theo van Leeuwen, which establishes the research and review of items in the grammatical, semantic, pragmatic levels. After the comprehensive work, it is proved the presence of...

Cooperación, desplazamiento forzado y ciudadanía. Representación mediática

Cooperation, forced displacement, and citicenship. Media representation

Neyla Graciela Pardo Abril

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):229-247 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.023

In this paper, it is assumed that media actors promote and inhibit social practices because of their ability to produce and reproduce social representations. The action of the media is not only the possibility of social control, it also helps to stabilize representations that have an impact on the ideas that social actors have on community processes. This study seeks to explain how the media create representations on dispossession of land and property, which lead to forced displacement. Representations on cooperation are also discussed, as they encourage a dysfunctional kind of citizenship for collective empowerment, which, sheltered by a handout mentality,...

Las representaciones socio-discursivas que sobre los jóvenes pobres ligados al delito crean los medios televisivos en Argentina

Argentine television media and their construction of socio-discursive representations related to poor youth crime

María Laura Pardo Gil

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):249-264 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.024

The aim of this research is to show within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis and with a qualitative methodology, how a socio-discursive relationship between crime, poverty and youth is constructed in a prejudiced way by Argentinean TV and YouTube. The corpus consists of five news chronicles of air channels and cable. The synchronic-diachronic method of text analysis is used to identify the semantic discursive categories permitting account for the discursive representations generated by the media. It is observed that a kind of script has been created, according to which many situations of crime lie in conditions of poverty and conflict related...

Romanica Olomucensia 2014, 26(2):265-276 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2014.025

The purpose of this investigation is the critical discussion over the representation and identity/identification construction of homeless social actors in the Brazilian street paper Aurora da Rua. Therefore, the main objective of this study focuses on the modes of representation and identification of the homeless population in a cover story of the publication. The theoretical basis of the investigation draws upon the analytical framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). As the result of the analysis, it was possible to map discursive strategies which pointed to a certain protagonism related to the homeless people who appears in the texts, although...
