Lorena M. A. de- Matteis
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):1-20 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.001
Airline passengers receive flight safety information from two sources. The first one combines the verbal and gestural codes and takes place before each flight. The second combines the verbal code, in a written form, and the visual code through the safety cards present in the seats of the plane. The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the various codes airlines employ to educate passengers, considering how similar meanings are expressed in them. Data were collected by combining the methodology of participant observation on domestic flights with the analysis of the safety cards used by companies operating in Argentina during the...

Juridical discourse as la brisure: a deconstructive-discursive analysis of the Maria da Penha law
Vânia Maria Lescano Guerra, Willian Diego de Almeida
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):21-39 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.002
The aim of this work is to discuss the stereotyping of the meaning effects that emerge in the legal discourse of the Maria da Penha Law. The hypothesis is that the law, which sought to include females in the order of legal discourse, (re-) affirms the marginalization of Brazilian women. The study is guided by the following theoretical contributions: the discursive perspective of the French approach, Foucault's concepts of Archaeology and Genealogy, and Derrida's deconstruction theory. The results lead to the conclusion that this particular law is inevitably affected by subjectivity having meaning effects that maintain the power of submission, beliefs,...

Frank Jablonka
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):41-56 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.003
The present article considers the divergences between quantitative and qualitative field approaches, especially on the basis of examples of empirical studies in variational sociolinguistics in contact situations in the Aosta Valley and in Morocco. One of the critical points is the question of representativity. Contrary to quantitative research, qualitative approaches are not interested in numerical but in exemplary representativity. From the viewpoint of the anthropology of communication, it is possible to integrate the "macro" into the "micro" perspective. This research strategy converges with the paradigm of complexity adapted to sociolinguistics,...

Jan Lazar
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):73-80 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.005
The enormous development of new communicative technologies, among which electronic communication plays a prominent role, is one of the main characteristics of life today. Nowadays, computer-mediated communication has become so common and easy that it is no longer possible for us to ignore it. Although the communication in chat rooms is never produced face-to-face, it could preserve some of the characteristics of real communication. This type of communication, in the absence of sense contact and para-verbal features, adds another scale of features to the "spoken" theme that are largely able to replicate spontaneous oral communication. It is advisable...

Lilia M. Ramírez Lasso
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):81-99 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.006
Political and media discourse has a key role in the process of the reconfiguration of the Venezuelan public sphere and the transformation of society and political representation currently going on in Venezuela. This process implies the symbolic construction of new social identities (people, oligarchy), political identities (chavistas, revolutionaries; opposition, antichavistas), and government identities (consejos comunales, comunas), as well as the construction of new meanings in another group of social identities (afrodescendants, farmers, fishers, students, women, ancestral peoples, poor people, and others). Then it is important to study the construction...

Florencia Liffredo
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):125-139 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.009
The murga is the typical expression of the Argentinian carnival: it is a combination of dance, percussion and vocals, which expresses both a form of street art and a form of social criticism. The first "Argentinian" murga in Rome, called Sin Permiso, was organised in 2002. It was created by Argentinian citizens living in Rome, who met up in the Centro Sociale Occupato Autogestito, a centre of alternative culture in Italy. Over time, the Sin Permiso murga split up, giving birth to different murgas in the city. These were mostly Italians and a few Argentinians and gained a central place within the Roman counterculture scene and the mobilizations against...

Alicja Raczyñska
Romanica Olomucensia 2015, 27(1):141-149 | DOI: 10.5507/ro.2015.010
The aim of the paper is to compare the description of Venus' garden in famous poems by two remarkable representatives of the Italian Quattrocento - Giovanni Pontano's Urania and Angelo Poliziano's Stanze. Both these humanists found their source of inspiration in Claudian's Epithalamium de nuptiis Honorii et Mariae. The intertextual dialogue between the work of the Italian authors and the ancient text will be examined.
